The Villain Deadpool 3 Needs
When Deadpool came out back in 2016, it broke the superhero movie mold. Its blend of juvenile humor and gory violence earned it a solid R-rating, but also honored the comics on which it was based. It was a smash hit, breaking box office records and garnering high acclaim from critics and audiences alike. In 2018, Deadpool 2 was released, and proved to be just as good, if not better, than its predecessor. Due to the box office success of both movies, its pretty obvious we’ll be seeing Ryan Reynolds’ merc with a mouth again on the big screen, and when we do, I hope they use one of my favorite villains in Marvel’s ever growing roster: Hit-Monkey.
Hit-Monkey? Who the hell is Hit-Monkey?
I’m glad you asked, friend. Hit-Monkey is a gun for hire, you know, like a hitman. Except he is a monkey. Hence the name, Hit-Monkey. Yes, I know. Awesome right?
I’ve never heard of him.
That’s okay. This is why I’m writing this article. I want to spread awareness of Hit-Monkey. He is absolutely great, and the perfect foil for Deadpool.
How?
Well, Hit-Monkey doesn’t talk. And Deadpool doesn’t shut up. Also, Hit-Monkey dresses in a three-piece suit and looks classy all the time, whereas Deadpool…well, he looks like Deadpool. See? Perfect foil.
Is Hit Monkey a good villain?
Yes, my friend. Hit-Monkey is a great villain, with a tragic backstory. He is basically John Wick, but a monkey. The Deadpool franchise has been known to get surprisingly emotional, especially in Deadpool 2, and Hit-Monkey’s background would add a tragic element.
But…he’s a monkey…
And? The Deadpool films (and comics, for that matter) have always had an element of weird to them. What’s weirder than a grown man having a shootout with a monkey super assassin? After introducing time travel and other elements into Deadpool 2, a monkey assassin is a logical elevation of craziness. Besides, The Flash fought a sentient gorilla on the CW, so…bring on Hit-Monkey.
Who would play Hit Monkey, though?
I’m glad you asked, dear reader. The obvious choice would be Andy Serkis, someone who has proven time and time again to be a great motion capture performer. That being said, he may be fairly busy since stepping into the directing game, and maybe he wouldn’t even want to do it. If so, the natural runner-up would be Toby Kebbell.
Who’s Toby Kebbell?
Remember Koba from Matt Reeves’ Planet of the Apes movies? That’s Toby Kebbell, who also did some motion capture for the titular ape in Kong: Skull Island (as well as taking on a human role). He is a talented actor in his own right, and has worked with Serkis in motion capture roles. Therefore, he knows his stuff.
You’ve…put some thought into this.
Yes. Yes, I have. Hit-Monkey, since he debuted in his own one-shot in 2010, was in a three-issue Deadpool arc covered in the trade paperback Deadpool: Monkey Business. You should check it out, as it is a blast, and contains the origin story of Hit-Monkey as well. It’s arguably one of the best Deadpool arcs in recent memory. Hit-Monkey has also recently been a member of Domino’s Mercs for Money and The Howling Commandos, but many people still don’t know who he is. Deadpool 3 could be his claim to fame.
Okay, you’ve sold me. I want to see a Deadpool vs. Hit-Monkey movie.
Me too, friend. If we truly won’t see a Deadpool and Wolverine team-up movie, then I hope we can at least get Hit-Monkey in a Deadpool movie. With the Disney/Fox deal currently finalizing, there’s no way of knowing what the future of Deadpool looks like. However, Hit-Monkey would be a great addition to an already great franchise. Disney is no stranger to some ridiculously realistic CGI animals (just look at 2016’s The Jungle Book or The Lion King trailer), so they could easily bring Hit-Monkey to glorious life. I sincerely hope they do.
